Gia Lai honours outstanding students in 2012-13 academic year

The Gia Lai provincial Department of Education and Training held a ceremony at the provincial Children’s House on August 27 to honour students with outstanding performance in the 2012-2013 academic year.

Attending the event were leaders of the provincial People’s Committee and Education and Training Department, as well as teachers and students who made high achievements in emulation movements over the last academic year.

At the ceremony, the department presented the excellent emulation flags to 42 collectives, as well as certificates of merits to eight collectives and 142 individuals. Besides, it also gave gifts to hundreds of students who won prizes in examinations at national and provincial levels.

Regarding reward and emulation in the 2012-2013 academic year, the Lao Government awarded the department with a certificate of merit. The Ministry of Education and Training and the provincial People’s Committee also presented certificates of merit to two students who won prizes at national examinations. In addition, the department’s reward and emulation council recognised 897 people with excellent achievements in grassroots-level emulation movements, 2,521 outstanding workers, and 220 outstanding collectives. It granted certificates of merit to 132 collectives and 126 individuals.

Certificates of merit were also awarded to 149 good teachers at high school level and 30 others at primary school level. As many as 1,366 students winning prizes at provincial and national examinations received certificates of merit from the Director of the Department of Education and Training. Exams having a high number of prizewinners include the provincial-level exams for outstanding 9th and 12th graders (748 students), the province’s English Olympiad (259 students) and a mathematic test using calculators (218 students).

During the event, the provincial Former Teachers Association also presented 15 scholarships worth 1 million VND each to outstanding students living in difficulty.
