Welcoming newly-appointed JICA President Akihiko Tanaka, President Truong Tan Sang said he expects JICA to continue supporting development projects in Vietnam, contributing to boosting the friendship between Vietnam and Japan.

The President made the statement at a reception for Tanaka on Monday in Hanoi, during which he hailed the agency as one of Vietnam’s primary donors in the past years.

He also said he highly valued the agency’s active support for environmental, healthcare, educational and cultural cooperation between the two countries.

Vietnamese concerned agencies are reviewing the investment environment to create the best conditions for Japanese investors, the President said.

In reply, Tanaka informed President Sang of financial and technological projects that his agency is developing in Vietnam based on the three pillars of economics, environment and administration.

The new JICA President expressed his hope that Vietnamese ministries and agencies will facilitate these projects.

He also pledged that he would do his best to promote the comprehensive partnership between the two countries, including the building of the Vietnam-Japan University.

The same day, the JICA leader was also received by Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung, who expressed his thanks to the Japanese Government for providing the largest amount of official development assistance (ODA) to Vietnam in the past year.

Prime Minister Dung said he wishes Japan will continue its ODA provision for many projects in Vietnam in the future, with focus put on the fields of infrastructure building and climate change adaptation.

PM Dung pledged that Vietnam always uses the ODA properly and effectively for its socio-economic development targets.

Meanwhile, the JICA leader said he wants Vietnam to facilitate Japanese investors’ activities in the country by paying more attention to land clearance, arranging corresponding capital for Japan’s ODA projects, and accelerating the disbursement of approved projects.
